Description
The F box, named after cyclin F (CCNF), in which it was originally observed, is an approximately 40-amino acid motif that binds SKP1. F-box proteins, such as FBXL7, are components of modular E3 ubiquitin protein ligases called SCFs (SKP1, cullin, F-box proteins), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. During mitosis, FBXL7 mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of AURKA, causing mitotic arrest (By similarity). It also regulates mitochondrial function by mediating the ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of the apoptosis inhibitor BIRC5.
